A Taste of Tradition
Izakaya (居酒屋） is a Japanese style drinking place that serves food and alcohol, perhaps like a pub or tavern in Europe. In Japan, they are very common, and you can find them in the smallest towns and the biggest cities.
The word itself is combined from “居”to stay and “酒屋” which mean liquor store.
This little gem in Kyoto is called Madoi (団居).
There are many kinds of sake! Kyoto is home to many sake breweries, large and small.
At Madoi, they serve Kyoto style food using seasonal local products.
The first course is a welcome drink and an appetizer.
